Technology @ OCLS

As a library employee, technology plays a major role in my job. For the most part, I rely on the internet to look up information and provide answers to our patrons. I am responsible for promoting wonderful services such as email or text messaging due date/class reminders, our online databases, downloadable media, online computer classes and chat services that we provide. With these services, we are able to reach many, many patrons that we wouldn't most likely get through our doors.

My goal is to keep up with the trends with the proper training and reading up of new technology coming out. Working at the library has helped me keep with new technology and avenues of communicating with the world. We have wikis and blogs that help us communicate with each other and we have classes that we attend to help us learn how to use new software or new services we provide.

I have to admit though, that I try to stay away from technology when I am away from work. Not completely, that would be impossible, but I do tend to stay away from my home computer and I refuse to buy a cellphone that has a touch screen and does everything except carry a blood sample from you. I'll stick to my old flip phone as long as I can make/take phone calls and send text messages, I'm good. I also don't visit the social networks I have signed up for online such as Myspace and Facebook as often I used to. I guess I'm all teched out by the time I get home. :-)

That is pretty much I have on that, but before I go, I did google my name. Fortunately my name is really common so there is no way to track me down, at least the real me...

I'm all for it

I really enjoyed the health articles that were provided. I think I may visit the Nutrition Data site quite a bit. This lesson came right on time. I've just started getting serious about losing weight and being healthy. Let me tell you, it sure has been hard. I've cut back on the soda a lot and drink water on daily basis. I've also started walking at least two miles a day. For me this is a big step since the farthest I've ever walked before is my garage to my car, then parking garage at the library to my work station, then reapeat cycle backwards. Not good, I know. Since I've started the walking, I have felt much better and less tired. So it looks like I'm off to a good start.

I would like to eventually get the Wii Fit. That looks like a lot of fun and something that everyone in the household can really enjoy. I'm just finding a way to work it into the budget. For now, we will stick with the Wii sports that came with the console.

Once again, it was a great lesson with lots of useful information.

why...

hello there. I'm actually impressed that I remembered my password. As one can see, I'm still a very private person. My last blog was in June of 2007. Wowsers! A lot sure has happened in the past year, but I won't waste your time with my life drama. :-) I will only share that I have moved on to bigger and better things and am very happy with my life.

What do I expect this year from this experience? Only bigger and better things. I know that OCLS will not disappoint me. Up to this date, they haven't and I don't expect them to...

That's it. That's all I got. Until next time...
